Teaser - Philip's Rules

Working hard on my new book!  Here's the first teaser (unedited) for Philip's Rules:

A knock at the door had Philip turning his head and Marshall growling under his breath as the stiffened fabric of the cravat was pulled in an incorrect manner.
"Come in," Philip called.
His butler opened the door and stepped inside.  "Mr. Hood has arrived, my lord."
A wave of relief flowed over Philip.  "Well I suppose if you've already let him in the door..."
With just a hint of a smile, the butler stepped to the side, allowing Felix to enter.  Third son of the Viscount Hood, Felix had no honorary title and was a mere 'mister,' however thanks to his investments in the railways, he was also a very wealthy mister.  His advice had also made Philip a tidy sum of money, which had saved the coffers of the Dunbury estates when he'd been new to the title.  They were the best of friends, and Philip had begun to doubt that Felix would arrive in time to stand beside him.
"Cutting it a bit fine, aren't you?" he asked his friend as Felix came in, standing and looking Philip over with a judgmental eye.  Whereas Philip relied on Marshall to keep him in the current style, Felix was something of a clotheshorse and one of the trendsetters among the young men in their set.  With his striking black hair and eyes so dark that they looked black as well, not too many could pull off the same colors and styles that Felix could, and many couldn't afford the level of his tailoring either.
Felix snorted at Philip's admonishment.  "Well I could have done with more notice."  He gave Philip a somewhat exasperated look.  "I was in Scotland you know, with no idea that you'd have some hare-brained idea about getting leg-shackled.  As it was, I had to leave a whole set of baggage behind."
"Oh the horror," Philip mocked, grinning.  Felix always traveled with twice as many clothes as he needed anyway.  Looking at him today, in his dark plum waistcoat, navy trousers and superfine jacket, no one would think he'd been rushed in his dressing.  "I didn't know I'd be getting married when you left for Scotland or I would have told you."
"So how'd she do it?" Felix asked, settling himself down in the chair across from Philip.  Some men would sprawl comfortably in such a casual setting, but never Felix.  He was never less than perfectly presentable.
"Do what?"
"Trick you into proposing, of course," Felix said, raising his eyebrow at Philip.  "Unless of course, you were caught in a compromising situation, although I hadn't heard anything to the effect.  But I have been in Scotland."
To Philip's amusement, Marshall shot Felix a dirty look.  Most of the time his best friend and his valet got on admirably, but his staff had been quite entranced by Cordelia, and Felix's insinuations had apparently struck a defensive nerve in the man.  Even more amusing, he felt quite pleased by it.
"She didn't trick me and she hasn't been the least bit compromised."
Well.  Mostly.  There had been some very passionate kisses exchanged in the past few weeks, but Philip had conducted himself admirably, considering how easy it would have been to sweep her away and... Remembering where he was and seeing how closely Felix was watching him, Philip shut down that line of thought.  Marshall gave Felix a superior kind of look as he finished off Philip's cravat and went to get his jacket.
"Well, I did hear she was a widow, so it would be hard to compromise her."
"A very respectable widow," Philip said.  Almost too respectable.  Keeping their encounters to kisses and caresses had done a number on his willpower, but it had been worth it.  In some ways, Cordelia was quite skittish.  While she wasn't an innocent, he didn't think she'd gotten much in the way of experience in the old Baron's marriage bed either.  Open-mouthed kisses had shocked her the first time, but she was quite eager with them now.  There was a passionate houri buried under her respectability, one which he was looking forward to unleashing tonight.
"Dear god," Felix exclaimed, rolling his eyes.  "You've become a romantic."
A small smile curved Philip's face as he held out his arms so that Marshall could help him into his jacket.  "Perhaps a bit.  You'll understand when you meet her."
Although Felix made a derogatory noise, Philip could tell that his friend was highly intrigued.  Despite the fact that Philip had shared his thoughts on marriage, after talking with Hugh and Edwin, Felix had remained unconvinced that Philip was serious - or that he would be able to find what he sought.
"All ready, my lord," Marshall said, smoothing down the lapels of Philip's jacket and giving him a last once over.  "May I extend the congratulations of the staff?  We're very much looking forward to you and your ladyship's return this evening."
"Very good, thank you, Marshall," Philip said with a nod of dismissal.  The staff couldn't possibly be looking forward to their return more than he was.  What had possessed him to agree to an afternoon wedding rather than a morning?  There was still at least half an hour before it would be time to leave for the church.  Ah yes... he'd been hoping to give the reprobate in front of him more time to arrive.
Seeing Philip's gaze landing back on him, Felix grinned.  "You're looking very good, old chap.  I'm glad to see Marshall's keeping you in tip-top shape."
"As if he would allow anything less," Philip said with a snort.  He gave himself one last glance in the mirror before turning away.  Although he knew he was good-looking, he wasn't given to Felix's kind of vanity.  "I have a favor to ask of you."
"Oh-ho," Felix said, his eyebrows rising.  Philip was not the type to ask for favors, usually preferring to do things on his own.  "And on your wedding day no less.  How can I refuse?"
Ignoring his friend's joking sarcasm, Philip pressed onward.  Today was too important for Felix's levity and he wanted to impress the seriousness of the situation on him.  "I need you to keep an eye on Cordelia's stepdaughter, Gabrielle today and keep her out of trouble."
Felix groaned.  "You want me to baby-sit some schoolroom miss?  What, you couldn't employ a governess to mind her?"
"Unfortunately, Miss Astley is too old for a governess," Philip said, a trifle grimly.  "Gabrielle is nineteen and about to embark on her first Season.  Cordelia and I will be postponing our honeymoon until the Season is over."
"Hoping to get the stepdaughter leg-shackled so you can have some privacy with your bride?" Felix asked with amusement, but his curiosity was obviously piqued.
Although Philip didn't want to denigrate his soon-to-be bride in anyway, even obliquely, he decided it was best to be entirely frank with Felix.  The man couldn't be too prepared to deal with Gabrielle, as far as Philip was concerned.  It was his private opinion that Gabrielle was the main reason that Cordelia hadn't received any offers of marriage before his, in the years since the Baron's death.
The little hussy had even had the nerve to throw herself at him when they were introduced, despite the fact that she'd just been told that he and Cordelia were engaged.  He could only count his blessings that she hadn't been at the house party where he'd met Cordelia and had been on a trip with a friend instead.  Making Cordelia's life more difficult seemed to be Gabrielle's main pursuit in life, despite Cordelia doing everything she could to make Gabrielle's life easier.
"If anyone will have her," Philip said.  "She's quite beautiful, but she's a viper, and she's wretchedly jealous of Cordelia.  It comes out at the worst times and in the worst ways."
"Make her dowry high enough and there will be plenty who don't care how waspish her tongue is."
"It's fit for a duke's daughter," Philip said quite seriously.  Felix let out a low whistle, seeing the grave expression on Philip's face.  "But for today, I just need to ensure that she does not cause a scene and that Cordelia has no reason for upset."
"Then I'm your man," Felix said with a loose salute.  Checking his fob watch, he got to his feet.  "We should be off, since you're apparently in earnest over this woman."
"Bloody right," Philip said with a grin, a little bubble of excitement filling him.  All his life he'd thought he would be apprehensive over his marriage, but the truth was that he couldn't wait to make Cordelia his.

Titles

So, this isn't exactly a teaser... and yet it kind of is.  RaineyCloud9 is working on book covers for me and I've had to come up with titles for the upcoming Stronghold and Bridal Discipline books.  In case you haven't been playing along at home, The Bridal Discipline series is going to be a spin-off of the Domestic Discipline Quartet; the first book features Hugh and Eleanor's cousin Philip Stanley, the Marquess of Danbury and his new bride Cordelia.  So the characters from the DDQ will show up now and then, but they're def side characters.  Still, it's fun to say hello =)

Anyway.  I'm going share the titles of upcoming books (along with my goal release dates)!  Granted, they are subject to change if I think of something better, but I'm really happy with the current line-up, so I don't think they're going to.  And, of course, each title is a hint about the book.  TBD = To Be Determined and TBA = To Be Announced... and there is def a difference, because TBA means I already know who, but I don't want to throw out that big a spoiler yet.  Suffice to say, the TBA has a name and has been mentioned in at least one of the Venus/Stronghold books and that's all I'm going to say.

Stronghold

Jared & Leigh's book (Fall 2015) - Breaking the Chain

Andrew & Kate's book (Spring 2016) - Bound to the Past

Michael & Ellie (Fall 2016) - Stripping the Sub

Olivia & TBD (Spring 2017) - Tempting the Domme

Stronghold Novellas

Jake & TBA - Hardcore Vanilla

Angel & Adam - A Stronghold Surprise

Jessica, Chris, & Justin - Venus in White

Bridal Discipline Quartet

Philip & Cordelia (Summer 2015) - Philip's Rules

Felix & Gabrielle (Winter 2016) - Gabrielle's Discipline

Arabella & Thomas (Summer 2016) - Arabella's Taming

Benedict & TBD (Winter 2017) - Benedict's Commands

Isaac & Lydia (Summer 2017) - Lydia's Penance

Now... looking above, those are ALL the Stronghold stories.  I might add another novella or two, but it's very possible I won't.  There is another small Stronghold novella series that I'm planning for the baby Doms in Olivia's class from Pieces of Stronghold, and those might end up being full-on books, but not entirely sure yet.  Also, I'm not 100% sure when the novellas will be out, as they'll be inserted in between some of the books.  It's possible Jake will get his own full-length book, rather than a novella, and he'll be the last man standing.  We'll see =)

As to the Bridal Discipline novels, those are all I have planned and then I'll be moving on to something else after that.

And, again, these are all goal release dates.  Life sometimes happens or things take longer than I think they will (or shorter, like Pieces of Stronghold did), but this is what I'm hoping for.  And in the midst of all of this, I'll still be writing stuff for the website, although I obviously don't write as frequently as I used to, and I'm also working hard on getting Marriage Training submitted to an interested publisher =P  It's getting an almost complete re-write to make it less dark, more romantic, and more traditional.  So far I'm really happy with what it's turning into and I'm really hoping that it might be available sometime next year (depending on how fast publishing stuff moves, I have no idea).

Anyway.  That's what's coming up in the series.  Feel free to speculate.... loudly. LOL.  I really do love hearing people's theories and, I won't lie, sometimes the theories make me start thinking in a diff direction than I was originally going.  More than once, a reader's comment has made me change my plot outline... plus I always just love knowing what people are thinking!

Next blog post will be a teaser for Philip's Rules =)

The Other Stuff

So Pieces of Stronghold has been out for a week (see previous blogpost if you  missed that) and so far everyone seems to have really enjoyed it, which makes me happy =)  I certainly had a lot of fun writing it!  I'm taking a break from Stronghold now, as I often do in between books, and starting a new Victorian series which is a spin-off of The Domestic Discipline Quartet and will be called Bridal Discipline.  Unlike the DD Quartet, each story will only have two POVs and each have a HEA ending, so the books will all be self-contained.  I got hit by the writing bug BAD and have been writing like a madwoman since last week.  Already am working on chapter 4 of the book.  I have no idea how long that will continue, but I'm riding out the wave as long as possible!

Anyway, if you're finished with Pieces of Stronghold and are looking for something else to read, there are some recent books just come out =)

Toria Lyon's second book, Playing Around, in The Scarlet Series is out.   I read the first one, Playing for Keeps, and enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to digging into this one =)

Muffy Wilson, one of my fellow YSD authors, recently released The Para-Portage of Emily, an erotic romance with themes of love across time and a little bit of a supernatural bent.  It kinda reminded me of a gothic romance, but without the bad guy.  It's the first book of a quartet and the writing is quite beautiful.

Another YSD author, Pablo Michaels, also has a recent release if you're into MM stories =)  Affairs of Men's Hearts.

As for me, my fingertips have been burning up on writing the first of the Bridal Discipline books, Philip's Rules,  I haven't gotten started on anything for Lit yet, just because I've been so in the mood for the BD book, and when a mood like this hits, if I don't use it I lose it.  I can't remember the last time I wrote almost four whole chapters in a week.

I did also manage to finally finish the edits to Venus Transcendent this weekend, so if you re-download it from wherever you purchased it, it will be better edited.  I also submitted it to YSD for their servers and paperback production.  Once it's out in paperback I'm going to have some kind of giveaway for a full Venus Desiring autographed set =)  I'm also planning on bundling the quartet for the e-readers as soon as I can sit down and do all the tedious work necessary for that.

That's what's happening in the world of Angel right now... also hoping to get the website up and running by the end of this month, which will mean I can also get the newsletter up and running!  =)

I Lied - Pieces of Stronghold Release

Guys, I lied.

For once, I've been able to push a release date FORWARD.

Guess what's available to buy today?  Only 99 cents!  Please don't forget to leave a review =)  Reviews are super helpful!  And I really want to know how people feel about this novella since it's different from any of my previous Stronghold books (or any other book that I've released).

Available for purchase on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Smashwords.

The Stronghold Doms and their submissives are anxiously watching as Jared and Leigh, both on the rebound from seven year, emotionally turmoiled, relationships take the first tentative steps towards something more than friendship. Leigh isn't sure she's a submissive, but she's intrigued and spending more and more time in the club. Jared isn't sure he can handle a relationship with yet another woman who can't fulfill all his needs, but he can't deny the sunshine that Leigh has brought back into his life.

With the past snapping at their heels, their friends worried about their futures, their choices could make or break the happiness of their entire group of friends.

This novella is told from multiple points of view, including Jared, Leigh, Olivia, Justin, Chris, Jessica, Patrick and Lexie. It can be read as a standalone, but is much more fulfilling when read as part of the Stronghold series. This novella contains BDSM, whippings, spankings, domestic discipline, and lots of hot, steamy alpha males and sassy subs getting it on.

Pieces of Stronghold is approx. 58,800 words long and includes a bonus mini-story that was released in a free newsletter for Christmas 2014 by YellowSilkDreams as a chapter from the point of view of Will and Gina.

Homeschooled Ch. 10

I know it's been a while since I've posted anything for Lit... it took me a while to finish this chapter while I was scrambling with Pieces.  Now that I'm editing, I've got more time for writing other stuff and I finally finished the Homeschooled series for Lit.  YAY!  This means that, when it comes to my free stories, I can finally move on to reader requests =)  Those of you who have made requests have all been VERY patient with me about waiting.  No I'm not sure whose request is going to get done first, but I will work my way through all of them before starting on a new series.

I feel really good about having finished some of the stories that I started, literally, almost a decade ago.  Granted, there are still more that need to be finished, but it feels good to have done some of them (and finish my New Years Resolution from last year LOL).  I am also looking forward to the short brain break for me, since the reader request stories will all be standalone shorts instead of chapter stories, which means I don't have any plot or anything to keep track of.  Which is nice.  My brain needs a bit of a break while I figure out changes for Marriage Training and also start a new series, and have the Stronghold series percolating.

Only ten more days before Pieces of Stronghold will be released!  I'm so super excited =)  Editing is going really will and I'm making some small changes to the story (in addition to grammatical corrections) that were made by the beta readers, and overall I'm really happy with what it's turning into.  Keeping track of all the different POVs was hard sometimes, but the end result is def worth it.  Plus it was fun to go back and visit with some old and friendly faces. =)  Hilary and Liam have a chapter, so do Lexie and Patrick, and Jessica, Chris and Justin have the second to last chapter.  There are a couple of new perspectives as well, but I gotta keep some mystery involved so I'm not going to reveal those =D  Obviously Jared and Leigh get the most chapters.  Everyone shows up though, at one point or another, even if they didn't get a chapter from their POV.

Anyway... In my previous blog post I also mentioned what the next series I'm starting will be.  It's kind of a spin-off of the Domestic Discipline Quartet, and those characters will make occasional cameos so we'll get to see how they're doing, but overall this new series will be entirely new characters.  It's going to be the Bridal Discipline Series and the first book will be called Phillip's Rules.  =)   Super excited about it!

But, currently, not as excited about it as I am about Pieces of Stronghold coming out!  I can't WAIT to get reader reactions... I won't lie, I became a little bit of a $hit-stirrer...  and I'm dying to know what people think.  WOOT!!!

I'll be posting a last teaser sometime next week, so keep an eye out for that =D

Awesome Weekend & Upcoming Stuff

I had the most incredible weekend... We had an amazing time at AwesomeCon.  I got to go to panels for Alex Kingston (Doctor Who's River Song) and George Takei, I stared at multiple celebrities in their booths like they were gerbils in a cage, I walked right past John Rhys-Davies and didn't make a fool of myself (could have totally touched him if he hadn't had two bodyguards), met and took a picture with Alex Kingston and Arthur Darvill (another Doctor Who actor - Rory!) who complimented us on our Cosplay (and subsequently rendered me speechless because of how complimentary they were when I was already mired in an epic struggle not to hardcore fangirl all over them) and had lots and lots of people taking pictures of us.

Conventions make me happy.  I just love all the people coming together and enjoying the same epic nerdy things.  I also love to cosplay.  Only about 10% of the people who show up to conventions are actually cosplaying and it's kind of like becoming a mini-celebrity.  And... well... theater person.  I'm an attention whore, what can I say?  It's also awesome to be recognized for working really hard on something, and we def worked hard on all our outfits.

Only 3 months till the next Con!

Eventually I'd love to make it to a romance convention.  It's not quite the same, cuz no cosplay, but I bet it's a lot of fun =)

So now that the weekend is over... it's back to work on writing!!!!  I've had a couple of family / friend issues pop up this past week (everyone's okay, mostly), so I can definitively say, there won't be a pre-order for Pieces of Stronghold (sorry for the false alarm) but it will definitely be out on June 15.  So there's that at least!

In between editing, I'm also going to be working on getting the last chapter of Homeschooled out on Lit (I know, it's been forever).  After that I'll be moving on to the reader requests for Lit =)

I need a break from Stronghold to let things percolate before starting on Breaking the Chain, so I'm going to be finishing Marriage Training for the publisher (unfortunately that process is a lot longer so it will still be a while before it's available to read) and starting my next Victorian domestic discipline series.

Hugh and Eleanor's cousin, Phillip Stanley, the Marquess of Dunbury, is quite inspired by his cousins' recent marriages.  After all, as the only child of his deceased parents, he needs to secure his own line and title with an heir, and having met with Hugh and Hugh's friends, he's realized that he could have a similar marriage, which would suit him much more than the usual bloodless ton alliance.  At a house party, he meets Cordelia Astley, the Dowager Baroness Hastings.  She's young, beautiful and shy, and in desperate need of a protector as her late husband's heir has tossed her and her step-daughter to the wayside with very little in the way of funds to support them.  Not only that, but, as the third wife to her late husband and coming from the middle class for her dowry rather than her social status, she's rather trampled on by her demanding and selfish step-daughter, Gabrielle.  Phillip is entranced by her sweet and submissive personality, her need for someone to bolster her confidence and courage, and he's sure he knows just the man who will be able to take her step-daughter in hand.

So there's all that to look forward to!  In the meantime, hopefully I'll be getting my newsletter and website up and running before the Pieces of Stronghold release, but either way, I'll be updating the blog on the regular =)
